Malegra (Sildenafil Citrate Tablets) is used to treat male sexual function problems (impotence or erectile dysfunction-ED). In combination with sexual stimulation, sildenafil works by increasing blood flow to the penis to help a man get and keep an erection.

This drug does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (such as HIV, hepatitis B, gonorrhea, and syphilis). Practice “safe sex” such as using latex condoms. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

The primary indication of Malegra sildenafil 100 mg is the treatment of erectile dysfunction (inability to sustain a satisfactory erection to complete sexual intercourse). Its use is now one of the standard treatments for erectile dysfunction, including for males with diabetes mellitus.

While sildenafil improves some markers of disease in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension, it does not appear to affect the risk of death or serious sildenafil side effect.

What is the Malegra tablet?

Take sildenafil at least 30 minutes, but no more than 4 hours, before sexual activity (1 hour before is the most effective).

Do not take more than once daily. A high-fat meal may delay how quickly the drug begins to work.

How to take Malegra?

The highest peak level of the drug (Cmax) is reached within 1 to 2 hours of taking the tablet but works only when the man is sexually aroused. Avoid grapefruit or grape juice while you are on Sildenafil Citrate.

Dosage of Malegra

• In many cases, the starting dose of Malegra is 50 mg taken approximately one hour before sexual activity. However, the healthcare provider may adjust the dosage based on individual response and tolerability.
• The dose of sildenafil Malegra can be adjusted based on how well the medication works and the presence of any side effects. Some individuals may require a lower or higher dose.
• The maximum recommended dose of Malegra is 100 mg per day. Exceeding this dose is not recommended and may increase the risk of the most common side effects of sildenafil.
• Malegra can be taken with or without food, but it may take longer to work if taken with a high-fat meal. It is generally recommended to take the medication about 30 minutes to one hour before anticipated sexual activity.

Side Effects of Malegra

Some of the mild side effects are seen with Malegra. They are:

• Dizziness,
• Headache,
• Flushing,
• Stomach
• Upset,
• Vision changes
• Painful urination
• Urine with blood
• Prolonged erection with pain (Priapism)
• Diarrhea

Rare side effects include:

1. Inability to differentiate between green and blue colors.
2. Sudden vision loss
3. Sudden hearing loss

However, once your body gets acclimated to the drug, the side effects will wear off.

Interactions of Malegra

• Malegra shows drug interactions too. If you are taking Vitamins, Minerals, Herbal Medicines, etc, do inform your health advisor beforehand.
• Drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions.
• Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist.
• Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor’s approval.
• Some products that may interact with this drug are riociguat, and vericiguat.
• Sildenafil can cause a serious drop in your blood pressure when used with nitrates.
• A serious drop in blood pressure can lead to dizziness, fainting, and rarely heart attack or stroke.
• Do not use sildenafil generic with any of the following: certain drugs used to treat chest pain/angina (nitrates such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide), recreational drugs called “poppers” containing amyl nitrate, amyl nitrite, or butyl nitrite.
• If you are also taking an alpha blocker medication (such as doxazosin, or tamsulosin) to treat an enlarged prostate/BPH or high blood pressure, your blood pressure may get too low which can lead to dizziness or fainting.

• Nitrate group of drugs

Malegra is contraindicated with Nitrate group or nitrates like isosorbides, etc. guanylate cyclase stimulators (Riociguat). Do not take Malegra if you are sensitive to PDE5 inhibitors.

Precautions of Malegra

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of:

• heart problems,
• stroke,
• kidney disease,
• liver disease,
• high or low blood pressure,
• dehydration,
• penis conditions,
• history of painful/prolonged erection,
• conditions that may increase the risk of priapism,
• eye problems.

During pregnancy, vardenafil vs sildenafil vs tadalafil should be used only when needed.  Since high blood pressure in the lungs is a serious condition that can harm both a pregnant woman and her unborn baby, do not stop this medication unless directed by your doctor.

If you are planning pregnancy, become pregnant, or think you may be pregnant, talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks of using sildenafil.

What should I know about the storage and disposal of this medication?

• Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
• Store the tablets at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
• Store the suspension at room temperature or in a refrigerator, but do not freeze it. Dispose of any unused suspension after 60 days.
• It is important to keep all medication out of sight and reach of children as many containers are not child-resistant and young children can open them easily.
• To protect young children from poisoning, always lock safety caps and immediately place the medication in a safe location – one that is up and away and out of sight and reach.
• Unneeded medications should be disposed of in special ways to ensure that pets, children, and other people cannot consume them.
• However, you should not flush this medication down the toilet. Instead, the best way to dispose of your medication is through a medicine take-back program.

What should I do if I forget a dose?

• If you are taking sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, you are unlikely to miss a dose since this medication is taken as needed, not on a regular dosing schedule.
• If you are taking sildenafil for PAH, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it.
• However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule.
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
